Deciding When to Say the Painting Is Done
10/23/2020 10:20:27 AMWith almost every painting that I have completed, there is a time when I think I am done. If I have spent a longer time than usual painting a particular piece, I may even say, "Enough, already!" The painting will be taken off the easel and put at a distance for it to dry. Sometimes, I will even post the painting on social media. Occasionally, though, upon further analyzing the "completed" painting, I will realize a flaw in design or an improvement that I cannot overlook. That's when the painting goes back up on the easel.
This is what happened to me with my latest work. I was sure it was finished and put it aside. I pondered the posted photo several times before I realized a major (for me) design flaw. Oops! Once seen, letting it go was impossible. Yup, maybe a bit anal, but that's me. So, now, the work is back where I can redo it without creating another major faux pas. Fine tuning is part of the process.
The finished version will be posted.
