Setting Goals

It has been my intention to finish six 3'x4' paintings this year.  Each one has taken at least three weeks working two to three hours per day.  So far, I have completed almost five and am on target.  Ideally, I would have done these by now in order to make my first launch during this season of high sales just before Christmas.  This would have been too stressful for me given the time frame.  Other issues that I have considered include building an email list which I am admittedly shy about doing.  Another is getting into the art challenges to improve.  Meantime, I am hoping to get into the video postings of my art.  Stay tuned for what may come.

Our Thanksgiving repast this year was not too much different than our usual meals, simple and nourishing.  It was healthier for us in that respect.  But, the camaraderie of family and friends was sorely missing in this COVID world.  Yes, we had a Zoom meeting with our kids and their families.  Not nearly as satisfying.  We look forward to when we can travel without risk.

It would also be nice to once more be in a gallery without prudent limitations.  But here I am in my hilltop studio making due with this new world.  "Just let me paint," I say.  That is my inclination.  Reality creeps in.  As soon as I have completed and successfully photographed my new paintings, look for my launch.  Included will be the large paintings great for a large space along with smaller studies that could fit in a spot.

The Votes Are In

Tides roll in and out.

It is two days past the Day of the Dead and one day past the election.  Whichever way you stand, it occurs to me that we are all subject to our own delusions.  It's sometimes difficult to imagine that others do not carry the same ideas that we do.  Yet, here we are many times divided in our deep truths.

With that in mind, I have thought long and hard about my WHY for art, my truth.  What drives the need in me to create through painting?  There is only one part during my life that this craving did not surface.  As you may or may not know, I spent time in an ashram community serving others.  It was during this time of celibacy, meditation, exercise, and simple diet that I found no need to enhance my life with creating art.  Serving others was my every day fulfillment.

Perhaps the best delusion of my personal WHY lies in serving.  It connects me to a spiritual need.  Certainly, in the act of painting, I lose that sense of Self.  I am serving the canvas and the creation.  Nothing else matters.  Miraculously, life goes on as usual.
